Change to 'Bios' will make for PCs that boot in seconds

So I suppose it's  bye bye bios and hello uefi.

Your link is broken BTW, but I know the story you mean:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-11430069
I think the BBC is a poor source for tech news, the article itself is not clear in any way on the improvements:

"At the moment it can be 25-30 seconds of boot time before you see the first bit of OS sign-on," he said. "With UEFI we're getting it under a handful of seconds."

There is no mention of what hardware they are using, or indeed what a "handful" refers to in terms of time.

Does anyone have a new PC that takes 30 secs to get to OS loading? My 8 year old laptop takes 10 secs to GRUB, then 40 to desktop. My 2 year old desktop takes about 15 secs to GRUB and 15 to desktop.

I redid the link. Thanks.
Point taken about the quality of bbc it journalism but presumably there will be some improvement on bios function.

Another misleading headline from the Beeb.  Lots of reasons why BIOS needs replacing, but slow booting clearly isn't the main one.  If it was then Windows 7 would never have made it into stores smile
