Topic: What do you install/remove?

Earlier today, I was trying to copy a CD to and ISO before lending it to my idiot neighbor. He tends to lay the data-side down on a table-top or workspace, thus scratching his entire collection to unplayability. Thus his need to "borrow" mine.  An idiot, but he's my neighbor, so...

For the life of me, I couldn't find a "copy" button anywhere on Xfburn. I recalled using Brasero in Ubuntu, so a quick 'sudo apt-get' later, I was making a copy.  Not needing to burning utilities, I 'apt-get remove'ed Xfburn.

And it got me thinking; what programs do you find useful that don't come baked-in to #!, and what do you get rid of in place of something better?

Installed;
Inkscape - I'm not a graphics-guy, but playing with SVG's is fun!
Brasero - see above...
Opera - just in case Iceweasel decides it's not going to play with the other kids today.
Ruby - because if I'm going to learn programming (someday) you have to have the tinker-toys to build with.
Python3.1 - ditto.
Xfce4 - after a few initial false starts (you need to put the 4 at the end - thanks for everyone's help on that), it looks different from OpenBox, so just for a change of scenery.

Removed;
Xfburn - again, see above.
Thunderbird - I have gmail for those applications. Mostly.
Pidgin - nothing against it, I just don't use it, and why take up the disk space?

I used to install emacs, simply because it had always been there, but the on-board psychotherapist said that until I was willing to put the work into getting better...

Also, is there a master-list of applications floating around of what could be installed, other than dedian.org?

Cheers. smile

I once installed gentoo. It asked me for a sacrifice and would not install itself unless I gave him my neighbor's first born and my best bottle of Whiskey.  -Awebb 2011

Re: What do you install/remove?

Some of my absolute must-haves:
Tgif - to whip out quick schematics
gEDA - for schematic & PCB development
Wine - needed to run Duncan's Tone Stack Calculator
Totem - it just feels different from VLC
qmmp - MoC has a recurring (sometimes fixed) problem showing lengths of VBR mp3s sad
video4fuze - because my Fuze is picky about how its videos are wrapped
acroread - because mozplugger breaks totem-mozilla

I also add multilingual font support because those silly rectangular blocks aren't very pretty.

I've never felt compelled to remove anything from CrunchBang.  It has some things I don't use, but I don't really use my appendix either...
