Could anyone give me a brief overview on adding images or icons to the statusbars? Or direct me to a tutorial?

Some of the bitmap fonts have icons built in instead of certain symbols. You can, for example, take a look here:

1. https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=130562
2. https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=130912
3. https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=118913

Just use that font in config.h. To enable the icons, open a terminal and use

echo -e '\xNUMBER'

to print the icon you want, where NUMBER is the corresponding .. number big_smile

Quick example:

1. Use the terminusmod font.
2. I want the headphones icon as tag name.
3. I open this image (provided in every of the three topics I linked you to) to search what number that icon has:
http://ompldr.org/vYmVwYQ
4. I find E0, so I run

echo -e '\xE0'

in my terminal and I copy the output (can be an 'empty' square if your terminal font doesn't support this) to the tag name in config.h
5. Profit.

There is no release yet, is there? Do you mean it has been added to the tip?

Re: The great #! forums DWM thread

OK, I am having a bit of a problem getting a gap for dzen2 at the bottom of my screen in dwm. I have, Tried different suggestions,That have been on forums, and on the net to no avail.

Most recent:

dirty = True;
					m->num = i;
					m->mx = m->wx = unique[i].x_org;
					m->my = m->wy = unique[i].y_org;
					m->mw = m->ww = unique[i].width;
					m->mh = m->wh = unique[i].height; - BOTTOM_BAR_HEIGHT;  <-----aded this

And then added this to config.h

define  BOTTOM_BAR_HEIGHT 15
Not sure if this was the right way to go about it. Just started using dwm yesterday.

Current applied patches are as follows attchbaove.diff,bstack.diff,and systray.diff.

Re: The great #! forums DWM thread

Perhaps this works? https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 97#p704397

Otherwise, if you just want a "gap" for an external panel (such as dzen2), you can try this: http://lists.suckless.org/dev/0907/0644.html

I don't use this myself so I can't really help you other than googling.

Lastly, may I kindly ask you to use proper grammar? It's hard reading your posts big_smile

Thanks for the links. Sadly neither of them worked for me. I'll continue with Google, And hopefully stumble across it. It's funny everything else with it seemed easy but this one thing seems to come with vague instructions lol. Thanks again!

Re: The great #! forums DWM thread

Just started playing around with DWM, liking it so far. One of the things I want to do is switch the font in the bar from terminus to one called "Source Code Pro" (monospace font from Adobe).
To create the font string ("-*-terminus-medium...etc) I've tried looking in xfontsel but Source Code Pro doesn't show up (it's also missing some other fonts I've installed).
The fonts are in /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ (each in their own subdir eg /source-code-pro/) and I'm able to select and use them in other apps so they're installed correctly.
Any suggestions?

Terminus is a bitmap font, whilst Source Code Pro is a so called TTF font. Vanilla DWM only works with bitmap fonts, so we have to patch it to work with TTF fonts. To do so, you can grab the XFT patch from the dwm website, here:

http://dwm.suckless.org/patches/xft

When done, you can put the following in config.h:

static const char font[]            = "<font>:size=<size>";
... or ...
static const char font[]            = "<font>:size=<size>:antialias=true:hinting=true";

Re: The great #! forums DWM thread

@descendent87

if the patch doesn't work, you can also get the development version from the dwm website.

Then:

static const char font[]            = "Source Code Pro:pixelsize=12:antialias=true:hinting=slight";

in the config.h will work for you.

Re: The great #! forums DWM thread

Thanks guys, I'm now using 6.1 and tried adding:

static const char font[]            = "Source Code Pro:pixelsize=12:antialias=true:hinting=slight";

to config.h but it's still using terminus

I'm assuming it's because of this:

Unia wrote:

So what do I need to change the font line to in my config.h?

Re: The great #! forums DWM thread

Do what I said before: patch the current stable release (6.0) with XFT. If you don't know how to; a few posts back I explained everything.

Good luck, and ask again when you can't figure it out.

OK I've downgraded to 6.0 and patched XFT but when building I get:
