For a netbook, have you looked at Joli OS?

Yes I looked it up last year when I got my webbook. Found it slow and cumbersome to navigate.

But thanks for the suggestion.

I've tried previous versions of Joli OS; like most netbook "respins", I think it would make a good interface for a smartphone or a MID, but I think XFCE is much friendlier on a netbook or other laptop with an actual keyboard.

Agreed.  wink

Yes, it went plinky and even though it gave me a lot of problems I am sad to see it go. Just not worth me replacing the hard drive, cost wise.

Especially when it's internal mouse doesn't work, it wont support things that I need and well it's just plain **** at a lot of things...

But thank you little webbook!!

What's happening to the elonex?
If it's just the harddrive, I'm sure someone can give it a good home...

Was gonna take out the hard drive and sell it for spare parts on ebay..

Would anyone really want to use it.... really??

CB was the only thing that I (with a lot of help) could get working on it.

It needs a USB 1.0 mouse too btw. Internal mouse didn't work for the time I had it. Plus it gets quite hot and the power lead needs replacing too!

Nope, don't think so. But we have an old Dell mouse and I was using that.

Re: Elonex webbook finally gave up the ghost..

I dont know jolicloud, but normally it is OK to install several distro's side by side.
First try to run it live from usb.

Re: Elonex webbook finally gave up the ghost..

Waldorf does not come with XFCE OOTB.
You have to install the package 'xfce4' if you want it.
At login use F1 repeatedly to choose between OB and XFCE.

Re: Elonex webbook finally gave up the ghost..

You have to edit /etc/slim.conf as root to enable the XFCE4 session (that is, if it is indeed correctly installed. sudo apt-get install xfce4 should do that). You should add startxfce4 to the sessions line, once that is done you can select it with F1.
