[SOLVED] Map Double or Triple finger tap on touchpad to middle click

Okay, here's how I did it, it's really easy apparently.

sudo vim /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf

# Example xorg.conf.d snippet that assigns the touchpad driver
# to all touchpads. See xorg.conf.d(5) for more information on
# InputClass.
# DO NOT EDIT THIS FILE, your distribution will likely overwrite
# it when updating. Copy (and rename) this file into
# /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d first.
# Additional options may be added in the form of
#   Option "OptionName" "value"
#
Section "InputClass"
        Identifier "touchpad catchall"
        Driver "synaptics"
        MatchIsTouchpad "on"
        Option "TapButton1" "1"
        Option "TapButton2" "3"
        Option "TapButton3" "2"

# This option is recommend on all Linux systems using evdev, but cannot be
# enabled by default. See the following link for details:
# http://who-t.blogspot.com/2010/11/how-t … rrors.html
#       MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
EndSection

Bolded section is what I added. As it says at the top of the file, you'll want to cp it to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d after you check that it works. sudo cp /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-synaptics.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ should do the trick for that.

You can find out if your touchpad has multitouch with this command

grep "TouchPad: buttons:" /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Output from that will have "double" or "double triple" if there is multitouch.

Re: [SOLVED] Map Double or Triple finger tap on touchpad to middle click

Old thread but I've been looking around alot for a solution to my issue with the two finger tap not working on my Asus UL30VT and this did the trick!

However I had to map it like this:
        Option "TapButton1" "1"
        Option "TapButton2" "2"
        Option "TapButton3" "3"
to make the two finger tap do the mouse3 or middle click. Not sure how that makes sense but it works as I want it to now.

Thanks alot!
