How do I place an app between tint2 and the edge of the screen?

I'm building a menu button, and I want to place it between the left edge of the screen and tint2's leftmost side. I'm not sure how to force my gtk app into that position. It needs to ignore tint2's strut policy, without turning off strut for other applications.

I can get what I want by starting my app before tint2, but is there another way?

If you have tint2 on bottom side of screen (e.g. resolution is 1600x1200) and in tint2rc file:

panel_position = bottom right
panel_size = 1540 28

then you get an empty bottom left corner 60 px wide.

You could use an application launcher

I know. Those are less than satisfactory because the icons have to be square(or are scaled to be square) and cannot contain text. And I learn nothing using it.
