Linux Voice: a very different kind of magazine

I'm sure many of you will already be aware of this, but for those that aren't; some of the ex-Linux Format writers are banding together to produce a new monthly Free Software and Linux magazine. The project is currently seeking crowd funding and has a campaign running on Indiegogo. The ex-Linux Format guys have been good to #! in the past, featuring the distro on their cover disks, so I thought it might be nice to try and pay them back in kind. To this end, I have replaced the usual "be excellent to each other" forum fortunes with an advert to their campaign and I will leave the adverts running for the remainder of their funding run.

I hope everyone will join me in wishing them all the best with the project smile

A most excellent gesture!

Seriously though, I have been meaning to use the space for good causes since removing the commercial ads (more than a year ago). Linux Voice seemed like a good one to start with. Once the campaign has finished, I'll happily consider others.

w00t! I'm sure you'll not regret it, I think the idea of an independent magazine, produced by the ex-Linux Format guys is pretty exciting. I've been a subscriber to the magazine and a listener of the podcast for a long time and the guys always produce quality content. I can only guess that without any shareholders to answer to, the new magazine will be a proper good read.

Sounds like a great concept. I'm in, even though I'm not on that side of the Atlantic.

Nice, thanks Larry smile

P.S. They're offering digital subscription perks and a US print subscription perk, although it is a little more pricey.

Re: Linux Voice: a very different kind of magazine

I'm quite a fan of crowd founding (power to the people).
I've bought as well a couple of issues of Linux Format which was quite good in general but I never liked it enough to buy a full subscription, maybe that will change with LV.

Edit: I never select physical perks to avoid the shipping costs and reduce the work load for the teams.

Re: Linux Voice: a very different kind of magazine

This might be (judging by the mock cover) the first Linux magazine with actual design direction. Sign me up. Will donate.

Ah, but wait;

Your name will be printed in a special Linux Voice Founders page in the first issue of the magazine.
A great addition to a subscription. No jokey names though :-)

That underlined bit kills it for me. I refuse to sign up unless I can have a dopey and/or controversial name.
Give me my Shorty McNostril, TrenchTrollop, GarterSlut, etc.
Fix that and I'm in.

They've just broken £11,000, not bad going.

Re: Linux Voice: a very different kind of magazine

Wow, even Graham Morrison has left Linux Format.  I wonder what happened to cause them all to quit.

I plan on signing up for a digital subscription.  I might be tempted to sign up for a dinner with the team if Phil and his family would provide room and board during my stay in the UK.   big_smile   Just kidding...2000 pounds is a chunk of money that I don't have for such an expenditure.  I wonder why they don't offer a lifetime digital subscription.

Thanks for the heads up, Phil.

Edit:  Just signed up for a one year digital subscription.

Bath is a bit of trip from Lincoln, besides, CrunchBang Towers is less of a tower and more of a 3 bed semi, 2 of which are occupied by humans and the other being occupied by computers big_smile

I've signed up for a year Digital Subscription. wink
I like their podcast, I'm 100% sure that I'll like the magazine and I like their purpose of giving back to the community. Definetly, these guys rocks! cool
By the way, I'm proud that the community of my distro, starting from the lead and creator, is supporting this campaign.  devil

It's actually really tempting since it's quite cheap.
But for crowd founding it's still quite a bit.

Re: Linux Voice: a very different kind of magazine

What a nice gesture with the ad, I also noticed the "Crunchbang 12" promo on the front cover of the campaign video. I bought a digital subscription as a birthday gift to myself.

I hope they make it, one week in and nearly half of the goal is reached! *goes to share the news*
